In addition to our dedication to caring for your vision and eye health, Virginia Eye Consultants also values community service and supporting local non-profit organizations. Our community partners have missions that align with our goals, including the American Diabetes Association of Hampton Roads, the Foundation Fighting Blindness, Virginia Opera, Virginia Symphony and the Norfolk Tides. Our business philosophy centers around working with like-minded organizations whose leaders have a vision to enrich and improve the lives of people in our community. In recognition of this commitment, we’re proud to have been honored with a 2019 Community Impact Award by Coastal Virginia Magazine. Looking Forward… Giving Back Provides Cataract Surgery in Hampton Roads

Improving the lives of people in our community is so important to us that in 2013 we founded Looking Forward…Giving Back. This charitable eye surgery program provides free cataract surgery for people in Hampton Roads who are uninsured, underinsured, or financially unable to pay for their procedure. Looking Forward…Giving Back is designed to help improve vision so people can live life as independently as possible. Since the program began, nearly 300 local patients have received $500,000 in donated eye care. This service meets a critical need for sight-saving medical and surgical intervention for underserved patients.  We are proud to work with the ASCRS Foundation during National Sight Week every October to help spread the message about how important charitable eye surgery is and the ripple effect it has in people’s lives.

The Virginia Eye Foundation

The Virginia Eye Foundation was founded by our president, Dr. John Sheppard, in 2005. The Virginia Eye Foundation funds thousands of sight-saving surgeries as well as tuition for young aspiring healthcare professionals. The foundation raises money for individual patients, delivers grants and optical equipment to free clinics, offers workshops on medical advances to local providers, and awards scholarships to gifted local high school students pursuing medical careers. Focus on Our Heroes

The team at Virginia Eye Consultants is very proud of our Focus on Our Heroes program. Founded in 2018, Focus on Our Heroes provides free LASIK surgery for an exceptional first responder who goes the extra mile in their service to the Hampton Roads community. Thousands of first responders in Hampton Roads put their lives on the line every day and Focus on Our Heroes is one way we show our appreciation for them. Good vision is critical for these committed men and women to do their jobs. Firefighters, emergency medical technicians, and police officers in Hampton Roads are eligible for nomination.
