Microneedling

So many of the signs of facial aging that trouble our clients can be attributed to a decrease of collagen in the skin. Wrinkles and fine lines, loss of facial volume, decreased skin elasticity, and overall poor skin quality are all a result of the natural decline of collagen levels that are part of the aging process.1 Fortunately for our patients in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach areas, the skin rejuvenation practitioners at Renew Aesthetic Center can perform microneedling with the remarkable Exceed device to help stimulate collagen production and reveal younger-looking skin.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling with the Exceed system, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a fast and minimally invasive way to restore the appearance of aging skin. The Exceed microneedling device is used to create hundreds of micro-holes in the surface of the skin. These miniscule injuries stimulate the body’s natural healing process, promoting the production of new collagen that revitalizes the skin. The Exceed microneedling system is the first to be FDA-cleared for the treatment of both facial acne scars and facial wrinkles.2 Microneedling also prepares the skin to better absorb topical cosmetic treatments, so skincare products are more effective.3

Benefits of Microneedling

By prompting the skin to create new collagen, microneedling offers a wide range of benefits to our patients, including:

  • Reduction in the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines
  • Treatment of acne scars
  • Reduction of hyperpigmentation
  • Improvement in overall skin tone and appearance
  • Minimally invasive: the outer layer of skin (epidermis) remains undamaged

Exceed Microneedling Treatment: What to Expect

Preparing for Microneedling

The only thing our patients need to do to prepare for microneedling with Exceed is to attend a private consultation with one of our aestheticians. During this meeting, you will have an opportunity to discuss your goals, and you will decide together which treatment or treatments will help you meet them.

The Microneedling Procedure

Before microneedling treatment begins, the patient’s skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepared with a topical anesthetic numbing gel to ensure their comfort. Patients simply relax as one of our skilled practitioners guides the Exceed device over their skin, creating hundreds of micro-injuries that will induce collagen production. Treatment with Exceed is not painful, but some patients do note a scratching or tingling sensation.

Recovery After Microneedling

No downtime is needed after Exceed microneedling. Following microneedling treatment, patients may notice some redness or swelling of the treated area. This will naturally resolve within a day or two. It is essential that our patients protect their skin from the sun after microneedling treatment, so be sure to wear SPF 30 or higher.
