Our guest blogger this month is Jessica Schiffbauer, OD. She shares highlights from the Virginia Optometric Association’s Annual Conference.
Virginia Eye Consultants‘ optometrists, residents, and student externs were all fortunate to attend the 2019 Virginia Optometric Association’s Annual Conference in Richmond. We were able to reunite and meet with many of our colleagues across the state.
The conference started with an early morning breakfast on Friday followed by a full day of educational courses. There were interactive courses about the treatment of dry eye disease and glaucoma in the afternoon that allowed for more discussion. On Friday evening, the Exhibit Hall opened and we were able to socialize with those who support our industry.
Educational courses about corneal crosslinking and managing presbyopia kicked off Saturday morning. Our very own residents, Drs. Stacey Flynt and Monique Smyth concluded Saturday’s educational section by presenting on corneal crosslinking and limbal stem cell deficiency. The Annual Banquet was held on Saturday evening, where two of our very own were recognized. Dr. Cecelia Koetting received the award for Young OD of the Year. Dr. Walter Whitley was initiated as President of the Virginia Optometric Association for the upcoming year.
The annual conference concluded on Sunday with four additional hours of educational courses. Overall, it was a very successful and well-attended conference! We are very proud of all the accomplishments of our colleagues. Congratulations again to Drs. Whitley and Koetting!
