The Virginia Optometric Association (VOA) announced that Cecelia Koetting, OD, FAAO is the 2019 Virginia Young Optometrist of the Year. She will receive this prestigious Vanguard Award at the VOA’s annual meeting in June.
Dr. Koetting joined Virginia Eye Consultants in 2014. She is residency trained in ocular disease management and her focus is comprehensive post-operative care, glaucoma, corneal and anterior segment disease and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Koetting is President of the Tidewater Optometric Society, a member of the VOA Board of Trustees and the VOA Legislative Regional Coordinator. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) and Chair and Editor of the AAO Glaucoma Section Communication. She sits on the AOA Certified Paraoptometric Center Test Review Board and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry.
She is passionate about educating optometrists and paraoptometrics and has been an invited speaker over 50 times, including lectures for the AOA, AAO, East-West Conference and Vision Expo. She has also authored, co-authored and edited nearly two dozen optometric articles. She is Virginia Eye Consultant’s Optometric Externship Program Director and coordinates a dozen externs and two residents every year.
An avid volunteer, Dr. Koetting dedicates her time to community vision screenings and Special Olympics. She enjoys playing cello and training to run half marathons.
