50-for-50 Event at Virginia Eye Consultants

Last week, Virginia Eye Consultants celebrated our 50th Anniversary by providing 50 no-cost eye surgeries to people in need. We called it our “50-for-50.”

More than 250 nominations were submitted earlier this year. A selection committee of community leaders who have helped shape Virginia Eye Consultants made the difficult choices, and 50 were selected.

Last week, we finally got the chance to help these deserving members of our community, and it made for a very emotional day.

“There’s a huge cadre of working poor in our community who desperately need eye care to continue working, take care of their families and to survive,” said Dr. John Sheppard, a partner at Virginia Eye Consultants. “I was reminded of how important it is to have reasonable, functional vision to live life to the fullest and to be gainfully employed.”
