Virginia Eye Consultant’s Marketing Director Guest Judges at ODU Marketing Competition

Last Updated:

Last week, our director of marketing and public relations, Tami Burke, joined Michelle Carpenter’s Social Media class as a guest judge for Old Dominion University’s very first Monarchs for Monarchs Marketing Competition. Eight teams shared their social media plans and creative strategy for a variety of small businesses owned by current and former ODU students.

“It was exciting to see how deeply each of these teams were invested in the success of the company they were representing. All of their strategies were well thought out and very specific to the needs of each individual business.  These students are all poised to go far in their careers.  Their passion and energy for the field of social media marketing was apparent.”

In this first of three rounds, each of the eight student teams presented their social media concepts and strategy. Teams were assessed on how well they understood the company’s goals and target market and their presentations included not just a strategic plan and creative samples, but a budget tailored to fit the needs of each business.

Three teams were selected from this class to advance to the second round, which will take place this week. Finalist will then advance to the Championship Round where they will pitch their ideas in front of a panel of judges who will select the final winner.

Virginia Eye Consultants was proud to take part in this first-ever competition and show our support for the next generation of marketers here in Hampton Roads.
