Virginia Eye Consultants and Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia Present the Art of Healthy Aging Forum & Expo

Continuing with the theme of last May’s Older Americans Month, Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia (SSSEVA) is challenging South Hampton Roads’ seniors to “Age Out Loud.” The 2017 Art of Healthy Aging Forum & ExpoSM, scheduled for Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000 19th St., Virginia Beach, Virginia, is being planned to equip the boomer generation and beyond with many of the tools and resources they will need to achieve their best for the rest of their lives.

The fifth annual event is presented by Virginia Eye Consultants and hosted by Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia. Virginia Eye Consultants is a national leader in its field, providing world class eyecare to the Hampton Roads community for more than 50 years.

“Healthy aging is top of mind for so many people in our community, and Senior Services is at the forefront of providing the best education and resources for seniors and their families,” said Karen Spencer, CEO of Virginia Eye Consultants. “We see firsthand every day the challenges seniors face, and this forum fills a real need.”

This year, event organizers are excited to welcome Masters of Soul as the featured luncheon entertainment. Masters of Soul is a celebration of legendary music and moves made famous by groups like the Four Tops and Gladys Knight & the Pips and by record labels including Motown and Stax. In addition, the luncheon program will include “A Salute to Caregivers,” an annual recognition sponsored by Optima Health and Sentara honoring those family, professional, and military caregivers in South Hampton Roads who make a difference every day in the lives of those they care for. WTKR News Channel 3’s Barbara Ciara is scheduled to act as mistress of ceremonies.

Five workshops facilitated by regional professionals in the field of aging are scheduled twice concurrently during the morning hours, and there will be an exhibition hall offering attendees access to an estimated 60 vendors as well as health screenings and other resources for active adults, aging veterans, and family caregivers. Organizers hope that participants at the half-day event will walk away informed, educated, and entertained.

Other sponsors, to date, include Anthem Healthkeepers Plus, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, Hook Law Center, Virginia Premier Health Plan, and Senior Living Guide. Event sponsorships and exhibition space are still available. Sponsors and vendors should register prior to July 30 through www.ssseva.org to qualify for the early registration discount. The rate will increase Aug. 1.

Event tickets are $15 (through Sept. 30, increasing to $20 Oct. 1) and cover admission and lunch, an event sponsor bag, raffle prize drawing, and access to all workshops and health screenings. Military and group discounts are available. Visit www.ssseva.org for more information.
