Having recently obtained FDA-clearance, the TrueTear^™ Intranasal Tear Neurostimulator is an exciting new solution for patients suffering from chronic dry eye. In a recent interview with Allergan—the manufacturer of TrueTear^™—Dr. John D. Sheppard explained that neurostimulation has been used for more than three decades to treat a wide array of conditions. He highlights TrueTear^™ as the first device to offer this unique treatment method for increasing tear production. The handheld device works by sending small electrical pulses into the tissue of the nose. This stimulates new tear production to temporarily lubricate the eyes until the device is needed again.

Patients who are considered good candidates for TrueTear^™ should use the intranasal device twice per day, or as needed to regulate their tear production. It can be an ideal solution for those 22 years or older who suffer from inadequate tear production or premature tear evaporation.
