“I just read a 200 page book when I was on vacation,” said Michael Palacios. “I can’t remember the last time I did that!”
Michael had LASIK surgery this summer at Virginia Eye Consultants and being able to see well enough to read has made a huge difference in his life. His distance vision has always been good, but seeing up close has been challenging. He adapted and strained his eyes for years before getting glasses. He’s 35 years old and glasses were always getting in the way of his life and contacts weren’t the right fit.
Mike is a very active person and surfing is what he enjoys doing the most. He also loves to run, swim, play tennis, basketball and to workout.
“My workout routines are on my phone and I can actually see them now. Before I had to stop my workout to zoom in and expand the screen to see.”
Social media is also a whole new experience.
“It was all just blurry and I couldn’t see what people wrote. I could basically just try to see the pictures. Now I can see it all.”
After his surgery, he could see 20/25 in his right eye and 20/20 in the left. He’s experiencing some lingering light sensitivity and dryness, but finds that drops are working well for him.
“Dr. Scoper is awesome. He is accommodating and seems to truly care about what he does.”
Mike finds that what holds people back from getting LASIK is their fear.
“People don’t like change and they have a fear that it will hurt or that they won’t know what the outcome will be. And it’s not like that at all. It’s quick and you don’t feel anything.”
Look for him out on the waves this summer where he’s #LivingLasikLife glasses free!
