Frequently Asked Question: Does LASIK Hurt?

Last Updated:

Most LASIK patients tell us they can’t believe how fast and painless the procedure is.

In preparation for your LASIK surgery, we’ll administer some anesthetic eye drops that numb your eyes. As a result, you’ll only feel a slight pressure on the eye and perhaps some mild discomfort from the instrument we use to keep your eye open during the procedure – since our natural inclination is to blink. Fortunately, the surgery only takes a few minutes, so this discomfort is very brief.

During the next few days, you may experience mild stinging or dryness, but artificial tear drops quickly take care of these symptoms. Typically, any residual discomfort after LASIK can be alleviated using over-the-counter painkillers and a little rest time.
