Esther Chang, M.D., is a Hampton Roads native who graduated valedictorian of Kempsville High School in Virginia Beach. She attended The University of Virginia on full scholarship as a Jefferson Scholar and Echols Scholar, where she obtained a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in Biology.
She proceeded to Harvard Medical School on a full scholarship. After training for a year in internal Medicine and General Surgery, she fulfilled her residency in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins Hospital, after which she completed a clinical and surgical apprenticeship in oculoplastics. From there, Dr. Chang currently practices general ophthalmology, treating a wide range of diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eyes, and cataracts. She performs cataract surgery well as eyelid procedures.
In addition to her accomplishments in the medical field, Dr. Chang is an award-winning concert pianist. She is married to David Chang, M.D., Director of the Portsmouth Health District. Dr. Chang enjoys serving actively in her church, knitting and crafting, reading books of all sorts, and taking care of their four wonderful children.
