Patients Choosing to Undergo Cataract Surgery Earlier

Last Updated:

In the past, patients often didn’t choose to undergo cataract surgery until they neared their mid-80s. Within the past five years, however, Dr. Elizabeth Yeu – a cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon at Virginia Eye Consultants – has noticed cataract sufferers opting for the surgery as early as their late 50s and early 60s. She credits this to baby boomers who are expecting better quality in their vision, as well as the advanced treatment options available.

Watch Dr. Yeu’s interview below to learn more about the struggles that come with cataracts and why patients are seeking treatment in the condition’s earliest stages.
