Our eye care specialists at Virginia Eye Consultants strive to offer our patients the benefits of the latest technology and techniques. Just this month, our senior glaucoma specialist, Dr. Constance Okeke, became the first surgeon in Virginia to complete a minimally invasive glaucoma procedure with the Kahook Dual Blade. This new device was launched at the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Meeting in November, and Dr. Okeke used this innovative tool within the same week to successfully treat glaucoma.
The Kahook Dual Blade is one of the newest products to be released in the field of Micro Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). Designed to enhance protection of the eye as well as increase precision, the Kahook Dual Blade can increase the natural outflow system of the eye, restoring normal fluid production and preventing glaucoma from worsening. In addition, the Kahook Dual Blade can also be used in conjunction with cataract removal, utilizing the same small incision, with healing time essentially the same as cataract surgery alone.
We are happy to add this new technique to our current selection of glaucoma treatments. The Kahook Dual Blade is yet another advanced option designed to address a very common eye condition experienced by millions of people.
Please take a look at this brief video featuring Dr. Okeke describing glaucoma treatment utilizing the Kahook Dual Blade:
