Every month we feature a guest blog post from a member of our OD team. This month, Dr. Kruthoff shares his perspective on the importance of coming together to support finding a cure for retinal diseases — one step at a time.
On Sunday, April 15th, the team at Virginia Eye Consultants will take part in the Foundation Fighting Blindness VisionWalk at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
This annual event raises money and awareness to help find cures for retinal diseases, including macular degeneration, retinitis pigmentosa, Stargardt’s disease, and many others. These conditions often lead to severe visual impairment for those afflicted, which has a profound effect on their day to day activities.
The key to finding treatments and ultimately cures for these conditions lies in research in the scientific community. The Foundation Fighting Blindness has raised $725 million since its inception since 1971, with fundraising events such as our local VisionWalk contributing to this total.
Virginia Eye Consultants has been a proud sponsor of this event since it first began and we’ve been a Community Champion from the start. We have continually had the largest group donation and participation at VisionWalk, contributing more than $75,000 over the years. This year, we’ve already raised $13,750. Thank you to our staff and doctors for once again coming together to show our commitment to this important cause. See you on the waterfront!
