The Raindrop® Near Vision Inlay is one of the revolutionary treatments for presbyopia offered at Virginia Eye Consultants. As near vision gradually declines as people reach their 40s and 50s, the Raindrop® – a microscopic, medical-grade hydrogel plastic lens – works to effectively restore the eye’s ability to focus light on the retina. This is possible due to its innovative design that reshapes the cornea. The inlay is as transparent as a drop of water and does not restrict the amount of light reaching the retina. It is FDA-approved for restoring near and intermediate vision lost by presbyopia.
Advantages of the Raindrop® Inlay
Patients who have undergone the Raindrop® procedure have reported an extremely high rate of satisfaction. Our experienced eye doctors in Virginia Beach have found the inlay to provide a number of advantages to patients living with presbyopia, such as:
- Improves near and intermediate vision without altering distance vision
- Eliminates or reduces the need to wear reading glasses
- Virtually undetectable due to its clear plastic material
- Can be removed if necessary
The best candidates for the Raindrop® procedure are those between the ages of 41 to 65 who have clear distance vision but need reading glasses.
The Raindrop® Inlay Procedure
Using laser technology, a flap is created within the cornea of your non-dominant eye, underneath which the inlay is implanted. As the Raindrop® is positioned over the center of the eye, it changes the shape of the cornea to a healthy, prolate curvature. The entire Raindrop® procedure takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Most patients take several days to weeks to fully recover, at which point they can enjoy clearer up-close vision with a reduced need for reading glasses.
