Karen J. Spencer has been appointed to the board of the Virginia Ambulatory Surgery Association (VASA). She is the CEO of Virginia Eye Consultants and has extensive experience leading outpatient surgery practices.
She joined Virginia Eye Consultants in 2008 and, prior to that, was the CEO of a 20 provider gastroenterology group with two large surgery centers in Denver, Colorado.
VASA represents Virginia’s ambulatory surgery industry through educational programs, legislative action and collaboration with other organizations on local and national issues of importance to the industry. Earlier this month, Spencer joined members from VASA and the national Ambulatory Surgery Center Association in Washington, D.C. to meet with legislators and discuss the quality, outcomes and cost savings ASCs can provide to the overall health care system when compared to hospital outpatient departments.
