Virginia Eye Consultants’ CEO, Karen Spencer, was recently selected by the ASOA to be on the Administrative Eyecare magazine editorial advisory board.

Norfolk, VA — CEO of Virginia Eye Consultants, Karen Spencer, has recently announced her upcoming involvement on the editorial advisory board for Administrative Eyecare magazine. This award-winning publication, which is produced under the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA), is distributed six times annually to the organization’s members and covers in-depth information regarding eye care practice management. With years of experience working in medical administration, Spencer will be contributing her management expertise to the editorial needs of each issue.

To be a board member of Administrative Eyecare, individuals must first be nominated by their peers. They are then reviewed by the current board, which makes selections based on credibility. Having been personally selected for the position, Spencer will have responsibilities on the magazine’s editorial team that will involve ensuring the journal is up-to-date with the latest industry news and incorporating all aspects of each issue into one cohesive publication. She says this will entail keeping topics related to the science, management, innovation, and research of the eye care community in the forefront of the reader’s mind.

Spencer reflects on her original transition into the field of eye care, stating: “I love the dynamic nature and the complexity of the industry. We impact people’s lives on a daily basis. We save and restore sight…one of our most precious senses. We combine medical and surgical care with a retail component and stay on the cutting edge of all things in the industry that are new, providing us with the opportunity to revolutionize eyecare for the patients of our region. The space changes every minute of the day, and there are never any two days nor any two challenges that are ever the same! I love being able to blend my leadership and management talent for the betterment of surgeons and providers who need to worry more about taking care of patients and less about the business aspects of running the organization.”

Spencer says she is honored to have been selected by the ASOA to be part of the Administrative Eyecare editorial advisory board, and she looks forward to working alongside her fellow managerial professionals to further enhance the value of the journal.
