The glasses hassle – or “glassle” – is very real. Virginia Eye Consultants has exciting solutions to help you ditch the frames.
At Virginia Eye Consultants, we pride ourselves in offering state-of-the-art vision solutions to help you ditch the glassle and live life in front of the lens. In addition to popular corrective procedures like LASIK and PRK, our experienced eye care team offers a number of new solutions that can provide enhanced results compared to previous options. See below for some of the revolutionary new procedures we perform to help you see clearly with less dependence on glasses.
Restore Near Vision and Treat Presbyopia
If you’re in your 40s or 50s, there’s a good chance you may begin to notice a decline in your near vision, if you haven’t already. Presbyopia is an extremely prevalent condition in aging eyes, which is why so many people require reading glasses or bifocals as they get older. Thanks to the many advances in eye care technology, our skilled specialists now offer two new treatments to help restore your near vision: the Raindrop® Near Vision Inlay and KAMRA™ Corneal Inlay.
The Raindrop® is a tiny, clear lens that is inserted into the cornea to reshape your eye, allowing it to focus light properly again. The KAMRA™ inlay, on the other hand, does not alter the shape of your cornea, but rather only allows focused light through the opening in the lens, which can effectively restore your near vision.
Slow the Progression of Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a progressive disease that occurs when the cornea becomes abnormally shaped. Although there is no cure for the condition, we can help you slow or stop keratoconus from further damaging your vision. Corneal Cross-Linking (CXL) is a groundbreaking treatment that involves placing riboflavin drops into the eye followed by a small amount of UVA light to activate the solution. CXL actually strengthens the collagen within your cornea to prevent it from becoming more misshapen.
Improve Vision After Cataracts While Treating Presbyopia
If you suffer from cataracts, there are a variety of intraocular lens (IOL) options that can replace your eye’s natural, cloudy lens once it has been removed. Each type of IOL offers its unique benefits for the right candidates. One of the latest versions that recently received FDA approval is the TECNIS® Symfony IOL. This lens is the first of its kind to improve vision after cataract surgery while also correcting presbyopia with extended range of vision. The IOL is also the first of its kind to simultaneously correct for astigmatism, distance vision and a broader range of near vision.
