Opening Day of VEC’s Retina Center

Last Updated:

Retina-patient1Today, Virginia Eye Consultants celebrates the opening of the new Retina Center at our Norfolk location.

Cecil Mays, the Retina Center’s very first patient, is pictured here with Dr. David M. Salib. Mays is holding VEC’s 50th anniversary wine bottle to commemorate 50 years of world-class specialty eye care in Norfolk.

While VEC already provides advanced retinal care to patients in Hampton Roads, we look forward to being able to serve more patients with shorter waiting times at the Retina Center, which boasts five exam rooms, one procedure room, and one diagnostic testing room.

The diagnostic testing room is equipped with a state-of-the-art Heidelberg Spectralis® OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) machine, which is a multi-functional retinal image scanner that is used to view/diagnose macular diseases, including macular degeneration. We are excited to expand our facility with the addition of the Retina Center and believe it will enhance the already excellent patient experience at VEC.

Dr. Salib specializes in treating patients with macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment and other sight-threatening disorders related to the retina and vitreous portion of the eye. The Retina Center provides him with more space and more advanced technology to better diagnose and treat patients like Mays.

The opening of the Retina Center is a groundbreaking way to start our 50th year. We invite you to celebrate with us by participating in our “50-for-50” campaign. If you know someone who is un- or under-insured and in need of an eye procedure, please nominate them using the form here: https://www.virginiaeyeconsultants.com/50-for-50/.
