Our team is experienced in Phase I-IV clinical trials involving glaucoma, ocular hypertension, uveitis, dry eye, corneal ulcers, conjunctivitis, cataracts, and inflammatory keratitis. We handle all areas of clinical research including patient care, data collection, case report form completion, development of research protocols and informed consent forms, development of contracts and budgets, coordination of site monitoring visits and IRB submissions.
Drs. Sheppard, Bodner and Scoper have each served as principal investigators in numerous studies and understand the importance of detail in the examination, record keeping and caring for patients in clinical trials. Each doctor takes personal responsibility for all aspects of each ongoing study. Additionally, Dr. Scoper brings the experience of serving on the University of Tennessee Medical Center IRB for six years and substituted as chair of the board on occasion. Dr. Schultz also has previous research experience and has participated in a number of clinical research trials regarding refractive and cataract surgical outcomes as a sub-investigator at VisionAmerica in Memphis, Tennessee. He also served as a principal investigator on a private research project regarding the safety and efficacy of Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty for uncontrolled glaucoma.
Our new 27,000 square foot facility will provide the last piece of the puzzle in making Virginia Eye Consultants a world-class clinical research center. Adjacent to the 16-lane clinic will be a 20-foot lane dedicated to research. Each research staff member will have office space adjacent to a conference area. Study monitors will have a dedicated private office for reviewing records with telephone, fax, computer, and copying access. A large temperature-controlled storage room will provide ample space for research charts, case report forms and regulatory binders. This storage room will include a refrigerator, freezer and a dedicated secure area for investigational drugs.
Virginia Eye Consultants have consistently been "high enrollers" in clinical trials. In the past year, our site was a leading enroller in a multi-center Phase III glaucoma trial, a multi-center Phase III uveitis trial, and a multi-center Phase I/II corneal ulcer trial. Our site was also selected as one of five sites in the nation in a Phase II glaucoma trial. We are also the number one enroller in the country on a recent multi-center Phase III Ocular Allergy Trial.
With our growing research staff, new facility and new fellowship trained doctors; we plan to exceed all expectations for enrollment and quality of work in clinical research.
